"Whispers of Loss" is not just a film; it's a testament to the indomitable human spirit and the timeless force of love. Drawing from intimate personal encounters and poignant observations of life's complexities, this project stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of writer and director, Eric Bakhshi. Together with producer Brian Liu, we aim to craft a cinematic journey that ignites profound discussions on themes of sorrow, resilience, and love.

Whispers of Loss

The Inspiration
Earlier this year, writer and director Eric Bakhshi wrote the screenplay for his newest short film, "Whispers of Loss," inspired by a true story. It all started when his friend John shared some joyful news: his wife was expecting a baby girl. They had already prepared a pink nursery, eagerly anticipating the arrival of their child. However, their happiness took a devastating turn when their daughter arrived prematurely at just five months. Despite the doctors' efforts, the baby girl passed away after a mere two hours, leaving John and his wife in a state of disbelief and despair.

Their daughter was the second child they had lost, so the pain they felt was immeasurable. His wife struggled for a year to come to terms with their grief, while John wondered if any of it was real. At times, he clung onto an impossible dream: that one day, he’d come home to see his daughter waiting for him, alive and happy. Eric penned this story not only to honor their journey but also to recognize that millions of other mothers and parents navigate similar challenges, whether it's pregnancy loss or raising their children, with the hope that they find solace in knowing that they are not alone.er

Whispers of Loss

The film follows Kanan, a 30-year-old mother who wakes up one night to find her five-year-old daughter Anna is missing. Overcome with horror, Kanan desperately searches for Anna, eventually finding her in a mysterious forest, far from home.

Together, Kanan and Anna flee from an unseen threat. However, when it seems like they finally reached a safe haven, unexpected revelations force Kanan to confront the harrowing reality of losing Anna.

Eric bakhshi Writer, Director, Producer

based in Seattle, has been passionate about writing, film, photography, and animation since 1995, when he embarked on these endeavors alongside his brother, who was already deeply involved in sound recording and directing. Inspired by his brother's dedication to cinematic storytelling, Eric embarked on a journey to translate his narratives into film, resulting in his international debut in 2003. Eric relocated to Seattle in 2011, where he further honed his skills in directing and animation. In 2019, he delved into creating animation and music for children, showcasing his versatility in this innovative medium. In late 2023, Eric directed a fantasy and drama film titled "The Imagined Realities," which earned the top prize for short drama at a festival

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR - Chloes Ciara

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR -
Raised by a combat cameraman, Chloes Ciara has been connected to videography since birth. She produced her high school’s news broadcast and interned shortly at Washington State University’s College of Communications for broadcasting as well. After a hiatus working in education administration, hospitality, and political administration, she returned to her passion for storytelling via film in 2020. Chloes has been a passionate filmmaker for the last 4 years, mastering every role from production assistant to producer. She has been the first assistant director for several short films, including two features. Forever a student, committed to serving, and ready to bring to life another cinematic story, she will be the first assistant director on Whispers of Loss.

ASSOCIATE PRODUCER - Marley Tullis-Monetta

MEET THE CREW: ASSOCIATE PRODUCER - Marley Tullis-Monetta is a graduate student at the University of Washington pursuing a Master’s of Communication Leadership. From this education as well as time spent on set with projects such as “Whispers of Loss” or Bakhshi’s recent release “Imagined Realities” Marley hopes to continue her passion of telling stories that build bridges between the real-life challenges that characters face and the audience in order to improve broader levels of empathy and awareness.

PRODUCER: Brian Liu

PRODUCER: Brian Liu is a jack of all trades whose passion for making films started in 2015. He is eager to learn anything about the technical and creative aspects of transforming a story into an entertaining cinematic experience. From 2017-2020, he helped develop LUX: Film Production Club at the University of Washington in its formative years into a hotbed of student filmmakers, independent of film schools or programs. There, he was responsible for getting scripts, organizing crews, and documenting their great work in behind-the-scene photos and videos. Working frequently at the no-budget/microbudget level of filmmaking, he is intimately aware of the unique challenges at this scale and anticipates problems to prevent them before they arise.

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY - Raymond Parsons

DIRECTOR OF PHOTOGRAPHY - Raymond Parsons is a cinematographer, editor, colorist, writer and filmmaker based in the greater-Seattle area.
Raymond has been a photographer since 2005 and a filmmaker since 2017. Raymond focused on photographing wildlife and landscapes in the state of Washington as he looked to master capturing beautiful images. When Raymond shifted to making videos 12 years later, he quickly moved into music videos, short films and later feature films.
Raymond is committed to the art of storytelling and looks beyond the camera as he brings stories to life. Raymond’s attention to detail and highly organized manner allow him to produce compelling content in an efficient fashion. When not making films, Raymond enjoys spending time with his wife and son. He also enjoys skiing, golf and pickleball.
